Sri Madhvacharya, during his manifestation on earth, made and worshiped several idols of Lord Vishnu. He later distributed these to his Shishyas and in turn, they continue to be worshiped by the various mathas that the students formed. The following is a list of the Shishyas, the mathas they established and the idol they received from Srimadacharya.
- Sri Hrishikesha Tirtha – Palimaru Matha – Sri Rama along with Sita and Lakshmana
- Sri Narasimha Tirtha – Adamaru Matha – Sri Kaliyamardana Krishna (with four arms)
- Sri Janardana Tirtha – Krishnapura Matha – Sri Kaliyamardana Krishna (with two arms)
- Sri Upendra Tirtha – Puttige Matha – Sri Vittala
- Sri Vamana Tirtha – Shirooru Matha – Sri Vittala
- Sri Vishnu Tirtha – Sode Matha – Sri Bhuvaraha
- Sri Ramachandra Tirtha – Kaniyooru Matha – Sri Narasimha
- Sri Adhokshaja Tirtha – Pejavara Matha – Sri Vittala
- Sri Padmanabha Tirtha – Uttaradi Matha – Sri Rama
one small correction Sri Padmanabha tirtha parampara continues as Vyasaraja mutt and Raghavendra mutt..
other wing is calles as sripadaraja mutt.
Raghavendra Mutt has the Idol of moola rama obtained by Sri narahari teertharu when he became the king of orissa province. This was worshiped by Sri Madacharya and came to raghavendra mutt.
uttaradi matha is just a branch from the main stream.
for details refer satyameva jayate by Dr. BNK Sharma
its pretty kiddish to deny the whole originality of the whole ShriMadUttaradiMatha…
It is as the others are the original matha…
Lets get blessed by our ancestors and the mahanubhavas rather than denying the others and their originality…
I still remember the story of those shishyas who fought and were cursed by Shri Varadeendrateertharu
( Pune)and Shri SatyaBodhateertharu( Savanur, karnataka) for the sake of the so called originality of their mathas…and lost their lives.
The Madhwas atleast now leave all these internal discripancy rather than the disciplines.
Kindly excuse me if you feel Rough…

Dear Jayateerth,
I am not sure how my post or the comment by Sri Srinivas questions the “originality” of the Uttaradi Matha. The post gave a list of the shishyas of Sri Madhva, the names that their parampara is called by today and the idols that were given to them.
It is a well established fact that in the parampara of Sri Padmanabha Tirtha, several branches have taken place. No part of the article or comment raises any opinion about the superiority, originality or authenticity of the mathas.
Rest assured, I will not let my blog be a battleground for narrow opinions on things that do not matter.
Please clarify on how you feel the originality of the Uttaradi matha was questioned. I would earnestly make corrections to rectify the page if there are sections which can lead to such inferences.
Regards, Hari
One of the priests in Mantralayam told me that there are three Rama idols – Moolarama, Digvijaya Rama and Jaya Rama. Would like to know more details of these.
Namaskara Sri Raghu,
This I don’t have any information on. I know a little about Moolarama Vigraha.
Will try to find out more….
Regards, Hari
Hi Raghu
You are indeed correct Raghavendra Swamy Mutt has 3 idols of Rama
Moola Rama Devaru – Brahma Devara Kararchita
DigVijay Rama Devaru – Madhavacharyara Kararchita
Jaya Rama Devaru – Jayatheerthara Kararchita
Namaskara Kaushik
Thanks for the info on the idols. Do you have any additional info on Digviayarama and Jayarama – in terms of origin and how they reached Shri Raghavendra swamy matha? I guess most people know about the origin of Shri Moolarama devaru and I think there is some text about that on srsmutt.org website itself.
Namaskara Raghu,
I am trying to gather information regarding DIGVIJAYARAMADEVARU and JAYARAMADEVARU will post you once i have sufficient information.
Here is some info i know.
DIGVIJAYRAMADEVARU – Mahvacharyaru created or got it created. The base of this idol(Peeta) has DASHAVATARA (The ten incarnation of VISHNU) and there are two SUDARSHANAS, one on the head and one on the leg of the idol.
JAYARAMADEVARU – Jayatheertharu created or got it created.
